Allyson (Ally) Schulz,
MS, LPC
Ally has a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling, specializing in child counseling and play therapy, from the University of North Texas. Her bachelor’s degree in psychology, in addition to minors in neuroscience and Spanish, is from Texas A&M University. She is an LPC as well as a member of other various professional counseling organizations, and she has been with FCW since 2014.
Ally’s specialties include play therapy with preschoolers (3+) and elementary age children, individual counseling with pre-teen/teen girls, and offering support to the parents as a team in best supporting their children. She often incorporates expressive art activities, activity therapy, psychoeducation, and traditional talk therapy into the counseling process, along with faith-based resources/support when at the client’s request. Some of her treatment focus areas include self-esteem, stress management, growth mindset, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, grief/loss, body image issues, eating disorders, relationships, school and peer struggles, attention difficulties, and parental separation/divorce (though not active court cases). She offers the use of various formal assessments as well as the option to consult with the child’s teacher/school counselor/doctors in a team approach in order to better understand her client’s environments, interactions, and underlying concerns in order to best support them.
She is additionally trained in: child-parent relationship therapy (CPRT), a filial parenting model used to enhance the parent-child relationship while empowering the parent with knowledge and skills to affect positive change in his or her child; and in EMDR-Sandtray Therapy, an approach that combines bilateral stimulation of the brain with the expressive modality of sandtray in order to assist in strengthening helpful cognitions and reprocessing harmful/traumatic ones.
